The Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE) has thrown its support behind World Plumbing Day (WPD), the global initiative aimed at highlighting the importance of good plumbing in the health and safety of modern society.
WPD is taking place on 11 March this year and will support a range of events that will demonstrate the vital role that plumbing plays in ensuring that as many people as possible have access to safe water supplies.
The chief executive of CIPHE, Kevin Wellman, said that while the provision of clean water to places where water-borne diseases such as cholera are rife is often headline hitting, the work of plumbers in developed nations should never be taken for granted.
He explained, “Although we traditionally think of water-borne diseases, such as cholera hitting third world countries and disaster struck areas, it should be noted that plumbers in the UK are also on the forefront of public health, protecting the public from potentially life threatening issues such as scalding and Legionnaires’ disease.”
Wellman added, “The CIPHE is a member of the WPC and is pleased to promote the role that plumbers play in maintaining the health of the nation.”
