If you are looking at starting a career as a Bricklayer, then this qualification at level 2 Diploma from City & Guilds could be a great option for you.
This qualification has been put together with a view to getting candidates ready for the industry, not only armed with brick-work skills but with additional knowledge of the general construction industry to get candidates to be prepared and work ready.
You will learn a variety of Bricklaying and associated skills in order to achieve the following units:
Building solid walling, isolated and attached piers
Interpreting working drawings to set out masonry structures
Principles of building construction, information and communication
These additional units will ensure that you are able to
Read drawings and specifications
Complete method statements and risk assessments
Keep a clean work area
Work safely at all times
This is a very in-depth course and the knowledge and skills that you will gain from this time at Able Skills will put you in a fantastic position when it comes to sourcing bricklaying work/employment.
You will learn through demonstration and practice over a 10-week period and the training will be predominantly practical. The assessments however are a mix of practical tasks and theory assessments including an online exam so candidates will be required to research relevant topics when tasks are set.
This course will require a fair bit of home study commitment from you as there are also theory-based assessments required in order to complete this course and you will be provided with resources to help you undertake revision in order to complete these assessments. This will be sent to you ahead of you attending the centre and you will need to complete the work required for this before you attend the centre for the practical aspects.
Able Skills has a dedicated Brickwork area where numbers are a maximum of 8 so the instructor is readily available to assist all in attendance. Our bricklaying instructors have years of experience, and you will gain as much knowledge from them (if not more) as you would if you were out on site alongside working ‘Brickies’.
This is a hands-on, practical bricklaying course and you will be involved at every stage and will be participating throughout. It is therefore recommended you bring suitable clothing and for your own safety, steel capped footwear is essential.
