Course details

This 6 week of hands-on carpentry training is designed to build your skills gradually until various aspects of carpentry becomes second nature and at this Centre where ‘reality’ is important, this is easily achieved.

We will provide you with training and assessment in several areas of Carpentry covering first fix aspects like cutting and laying floor joists and fixing door linings as well as second fix aspects such as hanging doors and fitting skirtings and architraves etc.

The course is designed to build your skills gradually by providing training on smaller carpentry work and building to the more complex areas as the course progresses.

The areas in which you will be trained on are:

  • Constructing studwork with opening
  • Constructing and installing door lining
  • Hanging a door
  • Fitting floor joists and installing floor coverings
  • Installing and bracing trussed rafters
  • Setting out and cutting one pair of common rafter

This 6 weeks of hands on ‘reality’ training will cover all of the basic and essential skills that any Carpenter will need in order to provide a competent service to any potential customer.

This course can be covered over a period to suit you and you can train for 6 consecutive weeks, divide your weeks up or even incorporate some weekend training if you have ongoing weekly commitments. At Able Skills we aim to make our qualifications as accessible as is possible and additionally we offer a payment plan which, following a deposit, is on an interest free pay as you train basis.

We are aware that every student that attends Able Skills learns at a different pace; if you find that you have completed all tasks in less than the 6 weeks allocated, we have additional learning programmes available, making this an even more comprehensive and rewarding training programme.

This is a hands-on, practical carpentry course and you will be involved at every stage and will be participating throughout. It is therefore recommended you bring suitable clothing and for your own safety, steel capped footwear is essential.
