What You’ll Learn ‘in-centre’ at Able Skills
The Practical Part
Over the period of time that you come into the centre, you will undertake a variety of theory examinations based on the learning completed at home; these will be a mixture of on-line and written exams. At level 3 you will also have assignment work to complete – these can be done at home or in centre.
The main reason for your attendance at the centre is to provide you with practical training and assessment to ensure that you have the skills to undertake the various aspects relating to electrical installation work.
To ensure that you have a thorough understanding of the practical work undertaken within the electrical industry, we have put together our own comprehensive training programme. We have devised the practical training around the essential requirements of the qualifications but we have built in additional relevant tasks to provide our students with the right skills to understand the industry and to work competently and safely.
To start the process, we will send you a level 2 Home Study electrician pack which will hold all of the theory knowledge that you will require in order to achieve the related aspects of this qualification. This study pack has been written by our own instructors and is based around the knowledge requirements of the C&G 2365 handbook. We have sourced information from a variety of places to reiterate key pieces of information and to make the learning as accessible as possible. Included within the pack is the opportunity for self-assessment so candidates can check their knowledge and progress along the way. We would expect you to spend at least 6 weeks studying the theory aspect of this award before you contact us to make arrangements to attend Able Skills to undertake exams and to start the practical training. Once you are ready to attend the centre, we will arrange for you to undertake exams as appropriate, and we will get your practical activities under way.
The attendance for the level 2 is 4 weeks (20 days) and once level 2 is complete, we begin the process again with the level 3 self-study pack, this will require 2.5 weeks attendance (12 days).
By undertaking this ‘Home Study’ option, you are effectively replacing your access to an instructor in a classroom environment with a home learning theory pack. As this is the case, we have put together very comprehensive home study electrician packs to ‘replace the tutor’ but we will also provide email contact with one or more of our electrical assessors in case you have any questions not covered in the pack. You will also be given access to online resources to help you study.
When in the centre, you can be assured that we have access to the very best tools and equipment. We have excellent working relationships with CK, Yesss Electrical and Megger and there are opportunities for those who want to purchase tools and test equipment at discounted prices or those that would like to open a trade account.
