Commercial Gas Changeover

Able Skills has devised a training and assessment programme aimed at those of you who are looking to move into the Commercial gas industry from Domestic, those of you who already hold CCN1 – Domestic Core Gas Safety. Although this course is ideally aimed at existing domestic gas engineers requiring a changeover to commercial gas, it is equally appropriate for those of you who have held commercial core gas before and are looking to renew but feel that refresher training is required.

  • Commission, Service, Repair and Breakdown of Commercial Indirect Fired Heating Appliances and Equipment
  • Commission, Service, Repair and Breakdown of Commercial Overhead Luminous Radiant Plaque and Radiant Tube Heaters
  • Testing and Direct Purging of Small Low Pressure Commercial Gas Installations
  • First Fix Pipe Installations

The initial training will cover every aspect of commercial gas to ensure that operatives have the knowledge to undertake formal ACS assessments.

Training will cover:

  1. Safety, Legislation and Standards.
  2. Pressure and Flow.
  3. Combustion and Gas Safety Controls.
  4. Flues and Ventilation
  5. Industrial Pipework.

Assessment will be to achieve:

CODNCO1 - Change over Core Gas Safety - Domestic to Commercial

This gas safety change over assessment is designed for those operatives that hold core domestic gas safety (CCN1) to test their gas safety competence in Core Commercial gas work, only in areas where specific differences occur, by practical and knowledge and understanding assessment.

This gas safety assessment comprises of:-

  • Characteristics of Combustion and the Use of Flue Analysis Equipment
  • Commercial Ventilation Requirements
  • Checking and Setting Commercial Appliance Burner Pressures
  • Identification of Unsafe Situations in Commercial premises
  • The Operation of and Positioning of Emergency Isolation Controls and Valves
  • Commercial Flueing Standards

Pre-requisite: Candidates must hold the Core Domestic Gas Safety (CCN1) qualification and have been registered with Gas Safe register for more than 12 months.

ICPN1 - First Fix Pipe Installations

This gas safety assessment is designed to test the gas safety competence of an operative, by practical and knowledge and understanding assessment in the first fixing of commercial installation pipework, steel, copper and polythene and fittings above 28 mm (1”) up to 150 mm (6”) bore.

TPCP1A - Testing and Direct Purging of Small Low Pressure Commercial Gas Installations

This gas safety assessment is designed to test the gas safety competence of an operative by practical and knowledge and understanding assessment in the work of testing and direct purging of pipework (or sections of pipework) downstream of a primary meter control valve having:-

  • A volume of not exceeding 1m3 including any meter and any allowance for fittings.
  • An operating pressure not exceeding 21 mbar (nominal) at the outlet of the primary meter regulator
  • A diameter not exceeding 150 mm
  • The operating pressure at the inlet of the primary meter regulator does not exceed 75 mbar

This assessment will not assess testing for soundness and direct purging outside the range listed above and it may be preferable for operatives to instead undertake category TPCP1 (Not undertaken at Able Skills)

CIGA1 - Commission, service, Repair and Breakdown of Commercial Indirect Fired Heating Appliances and Equipment

This gas safety assessment is designed to test the gas safety competence of an operative in the work of commission, service, repair and breakdown of commercial gas fired forced convection air heaters and gas fired hot water boilers of rated inputs between 60 kw and 2 mw by practical and knowledge and understanding assessment.

CORT1 - Commission, Service, Repair and Breakdown of Commercial Overhead Luminous Radiant Plaque and Radiant Tube Heaters

This gas safety assessment is designed to test the gas safety competence of an operative in the work of commission, service, repair and breakdown of commercial overhead radiant luminous plaque heaters and type A (flueless) and type B (flued) overhead radiant tube heaters by practical and knowledge and understanding assessment.

CDGA1 - Commission, Service, Repair and Breakdown of Commercial direct Fired Heating Appliances and Equipment

This gas safety assessment is designed to test the gas safety competence of an operative in the work of commission, service, repair and breakdown of all direct fired forced convection commercial heating equipment with either100% fresh air supply or re-circulated air with forced draught or atmospheric burners by practical and knowledge and understanding assessment.

ACS - Core Commercial Heating (non-domestic) Natural Gas Safety and Appliances – LCL Awards

Our Instructors and Assessors have spent many years within the gas industry undertaking both domestic and commercial work, but they have also had years of experience teaching and assessing both Domestic and Commercial gas. They remain constantly up to date with all legislative and regulatory changes ensuring that their course delivery meets the standards required by the Gas industry.

Careful planning along with a committed investment ensures that this Commercial Gas Centre is one of the best equipped in the Country.

The training plans and revision material have been researched to the maximum and have been put together to enable candidates to have the benefit of excellent theory-based lessons and also the occasion to get their hands dirty with some practical tasks.

*If candidates fail to achieve the required level of competency in either the practical or theory assessment, it may be necessary for them to re-sit the sections which they have failed. If this situation arises an additional cost may be incurred.
