  • To apply PVA adhesive Unibond to existing surfaces.

Week 2 – Dry Lining/Taping & Jointing

Dry lining/ Taping & Jointing is the use of plasterboard on timber or metal frames and due to the pre-finished nature of most board systems, dry lining/taping & jointing is uncomplicated to learn.

In an area dedicated to Dry Lining, you will be taught the following:

  • Health and safety, protective equipment, tools of the trade, safe and correct use of tools
  • To measure and cut plasterboard to size
  • Apply plasterboard to stud walls, window and door returns and internal and external angles
  • 'dot and dab' method: direct bonding of plasterboard to brickwork and block work
  • Tape internal, external and flush joints
  • Apply beads to external angles
  • Joint filler and joint cement
  • Hand jointing techniques to all joints leaving a smooth finish
  • Sanding down and sealing for decoration

On completion of this course, you will have gained the confidence and technique required to undertake Dry lining jobs and achieve an acceptable finish.

Week 3 – Rendering

This course is designed to give you a good understanding of the basics of rendering. Whether you are a total beginner or someone who has some knowledge of rendering, this course will teach you the various steps required to complete any rendering projects that you may come across.

This course will cover all new and old methods of preparation including:

  • Fixing of rules around windows to form a hard angle
  • Learning to fit angle beads around windows and reveals
  • How to fix a batten above DPC height to form a Bell cast bead
  • Applying a scratch coat
  • Applying a top coat, enabling you to achieve a smooth finish

In addition to this, you will also learn how to do Ashlar Jointing and understand when to use Expansion Joints. You will learn all about the different types of rendering finishes and have a detailed understanding of all tools, materials and techniques required to complete a rendering project, including details on all of the correct mixes.

This 3 week training programme is entirely hands on and over the 3 weeks, you will cover all aspects you need to have a basic understanding of plastering, dry lining and rendering. You will be involved throughout, working under supervision of qualified instructors.

This course can be covered over a period to suit you, and you can train for 3 consecutive weeks, divide your weeks up or even incorporate some weekend training (for the plastering aspect).

This is a hands-on, practical course and you will be involved at every stage and will be participating throughout. It is therefore recommended you bring suitable clothing and for your own safety, steel capped footwear is essential.
