This particular 3 week training programme will provide you with 3 certificates including a City & Guilds Unit Accreditation.
The course will cover:
Week 1 will teach you tiling basics, starting from scratch you will learn how to tile both wall and floor areas and gain a complete understanding of the requirements for any area you are planning to tile. Please see our Introductory Tiling course for full details of the content for week 1.
Week 2 is an advanced training week, providing you with the skills to tackle more complex areas and giving you the opportunity to build on your speed, technique and confidence. Please see our Advanced Tiling course for full details of the content for week 2.
Week 3 is an assessment of your skills for which successful candidates will receive a City & Guilds certificate and portfolio detailing the work done. This can be very useful to show prospective clients when you are providing quotes or tenders.
Practical activities will enable the candidate to:
Prepare floor and wall to receive tiles
Fix Straight edge and check for level
Apply adhesives
Fix tiles
Apply Grouting
Clean tools, equipment
Underpinning knowledge will enable the candidate to:
State the health & safety implications of using powdered materials and ready mixed adhesives
State the need for use of PPE and SSOW
Give reasons for levels and straight edges
Identify types of tiles
Give reasons for grouting
Give reasons for gaps when applying tiles
State the need for a clean and tidy work area
Prepare a risk assessment for the tiling activity
Prepare a method statement for the tiling activity
This course also includes:
How to cope with more difficult obstacles such as pipes for shower attachments and toilet wastes
Tile with different materials including mosaics
Learn the correct procedure to remove and replace damaged existing tiles with new tiles
Undertake a demonstration of how to lay and fit under-floor heating
Undertake a demonstration of how to install uncoupling membranes
The training will see you learn tiling from scratch before moving on to more advanced and complex tiling and finally undertaking an assessment to show the level of competence you have achieved, supported by a City & Guilds Certificate. Our 3 week course is entirely hands on with excellent support and tuition from your Instructors. Throughout the 3 weeks of tiling training, we will demonstrate how to deal with any difficult areas you may come across like pipes, sockets, angled ceilings, uneven walls, tiling around a toilet system, window, basin, bath, radiators etc. We will also teach you how to complete different aspects of tiling including borders, patterns, diamond and brickwork and we also incorporate the use of different materials. You will be taught the correct procedure to remove and replace damaged existing tiles with new tiles and work on building speed and precision. Our tiling course also includes training on how to lay electric under-floor heating. A final assessment on week 3 will help you to see how much you have learned and we are confident that you will be amazed at your skill level.
This entire 3 week course can be completed in 3 consecutive weeks, broken down in to 3 separate training weeks or the entire programme can also be completed at weekends. This course is ideal if you are looking to have tiling skills as a secondary income, maybe to support your existing trade.
This is a hands-on, practical tiling course and you will be involved at every stage and will be participating throughout. It is therefore recommended you bring suitable clothing and for your own safety, steel capped footwear is essential.

If after this course you feel the desire to learn more about tiling then you could consider upgrading to our City & Guilds Tiling course, our NVQ Level 2 or NVQ Level 3 tiling training courses. We will take in to account the 3 weeks already completed on this course and adjust the price accordingly.
All of our courses take place at our dedicated training centre in Dartford, Kent. The centre is easily accessible by road, being just 10 minutes from junction 1a on the M25. We are only a short walk from Dartford train station which is served by frequent trains taking 35 minutes from central London. For anyone travelling from further away, we have our own accommodation available at only £25 per night.
